Owner Pack

Many of our customers prefer to pack themselves. If you choose to do this, we can provide you with specially designed removal cartons for you to pack. Then, on your moving day, our crew will bring wardrobe cartons for your hanging clothes. We will provide covers for mattresses and sofas to protect them during your move.

Fragile Pack

Our specially trained staff will carefully wrap all your fragile items in white paper and pack them securely in strong cartons using. For silverware, we use acid-free tissue to prevent tarnishing.

We would normally classify fragile items as glass, china, and vases. However, our surveyor is happy to discuss with you what items you would like packed as part of the service.

Special Items and Crating

If you have highly valuable items we can advise you on the best way for these to be moved. We can arrange for these items to be wrapped and packed and where required crated in specially made wooden crates ready for transportation.

Full Professional Packing Service

With most full packing services we start the day before the removal is scheduled to commence. The crew will work through the day packing items from your home, but they will, of course, leave items for you to use overnight.

In the days before the crew arrive to pack, we suggest you move the items you plan to move yourself together in one location. We always recommend, where possible, customers take important documents and valuables in the car with them on the day of the move.

We also suggest that before the crew arrive you put together your emergency items for the new house – light bulbs, tool kit etc. This can be packed in a box and pointed out to the crew who will ensure it remains accessible. Check out our Guide to Moving for more info on preparing for your move.

Top tips for Removal Packing

Think ahead

Unless you travel light, you won’t be able to unpack everything in the first day, so it’s worth deciding what you might need easy access to as soon as you arrive in your new home.

Pack an ‘essentials’ box which can be last on and first off the lorry for the first night in your new home. Include drinks, breakfast cereals, cleaning materials and crockery.
Prepare an overnight bag for everyone in the family; make sure that there is enough toilet paper and toiletries for everyone. Take this with you in the car.
Other useful items that should be kept close to hand are a torch, a first-aid kit including pain relievers, along with a small tool kit.

Sensible packing

Start early. Packing always takes longer than anticipated, particularly when you start agonising over whether to keep the extensive portfolio of children’s artwork or those purple flares you always wore to the local disco.
Pack one room at a time, clearly labelling each box on three sides and the top with details of its contents and the room to which it belongs in your new home.
You don’t need to take all the contents out of every drawer – just anything that might break, spill, or that’s very heavy. However, we recommend that you empty flat pack furniture, as it can be fragile.
Try to fill boxes to the top so that they don’t collapse, but don’t over-fill them as things could get broken when they’re stacked in the removal lorry.
Always pack heavy items in small boxes.
It may sound obvious but pack heavier items on the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
Keep all your valuables and important documents such as passports and birth certificates with you. It’s easy for things to become misplaced when you’re unpacking.

We used Hackworthy for our home move from Devon to East Sussex and simply couldn’t rate them highly enough! From the moment they turned up in the morning the guys were professional and reassured us every step of the way that we would fit everything in the lorry safe and sound. It was a 3 day move because of the distance and safe practice for loading and unloading, and this reflects the care of the company both for their staff and for not wanting to rush the job and sacrifice quality.
