Each year we export wrap and pack 1000’s of cubic feet of our customer's belongings to ship around the world. From air freighting a few boxes of personal belongings to Sydney Australia to shipping your belonging in a 40ft shipping container to your new home to Vancouver in Canada, our experience trained surveyors and crews will work hard to ensure your international removal goes smoothly.

No matter what your relocation requirements are we can help!

We offer free, no-obligation quotations for all customers looking to move overseas. Our experienced surveyor will visit you in your home to assess the volume of furniture you have to move as well as your packing requirements. Alternatively, we can arrange for a video home survey.

We suggest starting the quoting process 3 to 4 months before you intended departure date. This will allow time to evaluate your quotations and then start the process of arranging shipment with time to allow for gathering visas and shipment documentation together.

Costs are very much based on the overall cubic volume of the items being shipped so it can be difficult to evaluate which items you leave behind. Our experienced team will work with you to provide help and advice until we have tailored your quotation to your individual needs.

Unless you’re an experienced shipper we advise that we provide a door to door removal service. This will ensure that there is no costly hold up at the ports as we will deal with clearance through customs for you and your belongings will be delivered to you by an experienced and trusted removal company.



Groupage

With our Groupage Service, you share a container with other people. The advantage of this is that you just pay for the space you use (subject to minimum charges).

We collect your goods and arrange for delivery to our shipping agents. The containers won’t be shipped until they’re full, so it usually means you’ll have to wait for your belongings to arrive (although if you’re relocating to a popular location, it often doesn’t take much longer than if you had a dedicated container).


Dedicated/Exclusive Use Container

Shipment by exclusive use container is a direct door to door service and therefore provides the quickest transit time and is one of the best shipping options if you are looking to ship a large volume of goods; normally at least a 2 bedroom house.

Depending on the volume of your belongings they will be loaded within an exclusive use 20, 40 or 45-foot high cube container which will be sealed and transported to the port for shipping to your destination on the next available vessel. 

At the destination port, we will have arranged for the container to be customs cleared, delivered and unloaded at your residence. 


Baggage Service

If you’re just looking to send a few items overseas our baggage service offers an affordable solution.

We can send between 5 - and 20 boxes by either Sea or Air freight to any destination around the globe.

Sea Freight: This is normally to cheapest option but shipment can take up to 12 weeks

Air Freight: This service costs more but delivery timescales can be between 7  and 14 days.

How to Works

  • We’ll deliver boxes and packing materials to you.
  • You pack your belongings (you’ll need to make sure all your boxes are suitable for a one man lift – take a look at our packing tips for advice).
  • We’ll collect the boxes, and depending on the service you’ve chosen we’ll either take them to our warehouse for consolidation or send them on to your new location straight away.
  • We’ll help with customs and quarantine clearance and provide kerbside delivery at your destination.



Airfreight

If you need your belongings transported overseas quickly, talk to us about options for airfreight.

This is a great service if you are looking to send a "Survival Shipment" ahead of your main consignment, ensuring that your essentials arrive at your destination shortly after you. Our crew will prepare your airfreight shipment while they are packing and wrapping your main consignment of household contents.  This will ensure your items are professionally wrapped and fully insurable. 

We offer a door to door service ensuring your effects clear customs and quarantine in a timely manner.

Packing For A Move Abroad

When moving abroad it is important to consider the items that you feel are the most important to be included in your international removal. Of course you will want to take family heirloom but for example, if you are looking to replace your furniture not long after you have moved to your new home, it might be worth considering whether or not these are essential items to transport overseas for them to be replaced soon after you arrive. Boxes cost around £20 - £30 to ship so taking expensive crystals and crockery makes sense but shipping the contents of your old leads and charge drawer probably doesn’t. Some people ask if they can buy new furniture to ship and while you can you need to weigh up the cost of purchase in this country and then factor in import taxes which is generally payable in the destination country as well. 

If however, this is a short term move and you will be relocating back to the UK and you don't want to sell all of the furniture that you have here, then you may want to consider putting these into removal storage or self-storage facilities that you can collect from on your arrival back into the UK. 

Moving in general is a great excuse for a clear out of your things, but moving abroad is an even better reason to ensure that you declutter any items that have no value to you. Whilst going through your belongings and filtering the important items from the non-important you are likely to come across some sentimental items that you will want to pack up correctly to ensure that these are transported safely. At Hackworthy & Son’s our crews can ensure that these items are given extra special care.

If you’re moving to a smaller property than you lived in before, you should think about the items you are looking to move and work out if this is going to fit into your new home. If you are moving from a house with a garden into an apartment there will be no need for you to relocate any garden equipment with you. 

Inevitably you are going to need to transport your clothes within your international removal, but remember to think about the climate of the country you are moving to and consider the clothes you will need to take with you and perhaps rehome the items that you don’t need to take with you.

Following your international removal, you may not feel at home straight away, so we’d recommend packing some home comforts with you to help you settle into your new home and help you adjust to the new environment.


Moving Abroad Checklist

There are so many things to remember when moving house, and even more to think about when relocating to another country. 

Here is a checklist of things you will need to consider when relocating overseas: 

  • Documents required  
  • Visa’s 
  • Organising your travel arrangements
  • Visit the Doctor for a check-up and necessary vaccines
  • Purchase relevant insurance
  • Organise bank accounts

Moving Your Pets Abroad

When moving abroad you must remember that to give yourself plenty of time to ensure that they can relocate at the same time as you. We will work with our partners to make all the necessary travel arrangements including flights and export submissions.

Arrangements to export your pet vary by destination but as a general move you will need to take the following steps:

  • Talk to your Vet
  • Microchip your pet if you haven't already 
  • Ensure all routine vaccinations are up to date
  • Book appointments for additional vaccinations and blood tests as required by the destination country 
  • Obtain an Export Health Certification or ‘Fit to Fly@ certificate.
  • Purchase a travel crate for your pet and get them used to being in it 
  • Ensure your pet insurance covers travelling abroad 
  • Destination Permits – dependent on destination
  • Reservation in Quarantine

You should allow 6 – 8 weeks to obtain all the correct documentation.
